ERASED AN ACTOR OF COLORS JOURNEY HC GN (O/A)
(W) Loo Hui Phang (A) Hugues Micol
Maximus Ohanzee Wildhorse, renamed 'Maximus Wyld' by Hollywood, was a talented, prized, admired comedian. Of mixed race black, Chinese, and Amerindian descent, he was 'the actor with a thousand faces,' essentially interpreting ethnic roles: Indian chief, Mexican revolutionary, oriental dandy. His filmography is an anthology of cinema: Vertigo, The Maltese Falcon, Sunset Boulevard, The Prisoner of the Desert, Rebecca. However, no credits mention his name. On celluloid there is no imprint of his face. Maximus the precursor rests in the graveyard of Hollywood amnesia. What event pushed him into limbo? What occult and superior force has stored his career in a cinematic Bermuda Triangle? A veritable reinterpretation of the myth of American cinema through the prism of minorities, Erased reveals the political and social dimension of Hollywood productions. (STL320629)

GOOD FROM THE AMAZON JUNGLE TO SUBURBIA AND BACK GN (O/A)
(W) FLuX, David Good (A) FLuX
This is the story of the incredible journey of David Good, the son of an American anthropologist father and indigenous Yanomami mother who calls the Amazon rainforest her home. Overlapping the story of what David's mother's early years were like being raised in the rainforest, the book follows David from childhood to adulthood as he searches for identity, love, acceptance, and the one thing truly missing from his life his mother. Growing up in a predominantly white population of the US without a mother or a deeper connection to his South American roots, David struggles with issues of identity and relationships. His and his mother's stories intertwine in a heartbreakingly beautiful climax when they are reunited in the jungle. (STL312450)

RED HARVEST TERROR FAMINE IN SOVIET UKRAINE GN (O/A)
(W/A) Michael Cherkas
Soviet dictator Joseph Stalin waged a brutal war against the Soviet peasantry leading to the Holodomor, the terror-famine that killed at least 4 million Ukrainians during the fall and winter of 1932-33. Red Harvest is based on the tragic events that took place in Soviet Ukraine and other parts of the Soviet Union from 1929 to 1933. Stalin and the ruling Communist Party began their program of forced large-scale collectivization of individual farms and farmers, including the seizure of livestock, farm implements, crops, seed stock, and other property. Red Harvest is based on true stories as related to the Ukranian-Canadian author of Mykola Kovalenko, a Ukrainian immigrant to Canada, who was the only member of his family to have survived the famine.
